As the year comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on everything I have created and experienced. In February, I was inspired to enroll in a ceramics class. It was something I had always wanted to do, and a podcast I listened to encouraged me with the words, "take that ceramics class that you have always wanted to."
In the spring, I led a terrarium workshop at my church. Through my workplace, I organized a MakersLab open house, which attracted many community members from Pasadena. For the first time, people expressed interest in purchasing my artwork! I ended up donating it but received some commissioned work as a result.
In May, I had the opportunity to travel to London with a group of students for work. I was incredibly grateful for the experience. Upon returning, I participated in the Staff Art Exhibition for the third consecutive year. I've been working at ArtCenter for over five years now and am constantly amazed by the creative community surrounding me. Staff, students, and faculty often work behind the scenes to support one another.
Encouraged by my aunt Hannah, I established my own label "bonbonleeeee" for my crochet commission work. Bailey Walters, one of the instructors at Throw Clay studio, really appreciated my zines. I kept creating zines each time I enrolled in a ceramics class. The studio has a wonderful atmosphere. I often considered getting my own kiln and wheel, but I would miss the supportive community at the clay studio. In November, I took part in the Members' sale, where I sold some pieces to both strangers and friends.
Risograph printing remains central to my work. I document everything through drawing. Riso allows me to print affordably. I co-taught a class with the amazing surface designer, Jeannie Winston, from whom I learned a great deal. Our students came from Illustration, Entertainment Design, Graphic Design, and Photography. I hope we can teach together again.
In 2025, I've been invited to teach art to older adults in my community at Mt. San Antonio College as an adjunct professor. This is a tuition-free program for retirees to continue learning. I'm not sure how I'll find the time to do everything, but it's important to pursue what we love and give back to the community where we grew up.
