Homemade Rolls

Traditions. I remember my pastor said that for Christmas Day, his family always made cinnamon rolls for breakfast. I thought that is a wonderful tradition. I have always wanted to make them, but it seems like a challenging recipe. I didn’t quite make them for Christmas, but I made them a couple days later. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be.

The cinnamon rolls were gobbled before I had a chance to take a picture after I applied the cream cheese icing. The rolls were popular in my family. Even thought they were on the sweet side, everyone likes them. My niece who is a toddler, January, said in Mandarin that she enjoyed eating the rolls the most!

I didn’t make it in one go. I did made the first batch which ended in failure. I put it in the steaming oven for proofing. But the temperature was too high and the plastic bowl I placed the dough in melted! I couldn’t save the dough, so I made a new batch.

In the future, I am inspired to make a ceramic dish to go with the cinnamon rolls. The glaze color for the month of January would be matte gray. Everything I make this month will be that color. It would give me an opportunity to explore how that glaze covers my designs or not. Each month, I would choose a new color and create creatures that would go with it. For Matte Gray, I could make an elephant.

Towards the end of the year, my website expired so it was time to renew it. I thought about whether I should keep it since I hardly used it. The website renewed automatically before I had a chance to think about it. So I decided to blog more often so I don’t waste money. Like my mom always says, if you use it, it is not a waste of money. I hope to write a blog weekly to keep the website content fresh, like the cinnamon rolls from the oven:)
